Can You Really Build Relationships Online?

The internet can seem very vast and impersonal. Does it really help relationships grow? Well even a few years ago, you didn't know who was who online. If you wanted to search information about a person, it was hard to find any answers unless they were the top in their field. Remember when Google was just a funny word?

However in just a few years, my how the times have changed. The internet has not only become the place of wealth for information, it has also become a social platform for building relationships. We have web 2.0 to thank for that!

Thanks goodness for social media I say. It is a way to branch out of your inner circle of friends and family and meet new people from around the country, not to mention the world. It has changed the way people are dealing with people even when they are offline.

Can You Really Build Relationships Online?

I have personal experience in this matter. Due to a part-time job, and 3 little kids not yet in school, the only interaction I had with people were the ones inside my little circle. My daily schedule didn't allow me to deviate from this. Then I started working online, and a whole new world opened up. It didn't matter that it was 10pm at night, there was always someone online willing to talk and learn from. I can't even tell you how many people I've met online, that I talk to daily either on the phone, or online. My business has benefited, as well as myself. Everyone you meet whether online or offline, has something to offer.

Relationship building, now more than ever, is almost easier to do online, than offline. Usually people are more willing to write something, than to say it out loud, especially if it deals with feelings. That said, it's easier and faster to get to know someone online than offline. With the likes of Facebook, Twitter, MySpace...there are more platforms to connect with people then ever before, and you can get to know more about them from their profile then you would ever know just by talking occasionally. If you're on Facebook, think of how many friends you have on there that you went to school with as well. Being able to connect up with them again, and picking up where you left off grows your relationship, and that is priceless.

Another way to grow your relationships online even if you just started to get to know each other, is to show your appreciation with your new friends. Get to know their spouse or significant other, and when their birthdays are. Send them a card to show you appreciate them. It is a small gesture, but it yields big effects. Make yourself stand out from the other people online, and your relationships will further your network, which in turn can further your career.

I have had great success using this small gesture of kindness, and it only takes an extra 2 minutes to do. If you want to send cards to your friends online, and use this technique, this system has saved me tons of time. As an unexpected result, it is has even furthered my business contacts. You may want to check it out for yourself, HERE, to see if it is something you might want to incorporate into your daily tasks. Your online relationships will thank you for it!
